Developing Ideas

Following my research my initial feeling was to go for a design that was both rounded but also
conveyed the sense of light and speed from the movie. Here I'm trying to emulate the 'swoosh'
shapes on the sides of the Tron cycle and the suits worn by the characters in the film. I think
the problem here is the portable element of the speaker is jeopardised. You can't very well chuck
a pointy and delicate speaker in your bag when you're on the go! I need to probably focus on
the neon lights as a way of making it feel like Tron merchandise.

My attempts at a more rounded shape! I'm concentrating more on the neon, the wheels and the
helmet to keep the design more compact but it feels like a snooker ball! In trying to get accross
the shape of the helmet and the tyres of the cycle I've created an acient diving mask!!!
In the second sketch I thought I'd attempt a battery door but it flattens the design's back end
which I don't like at all.

So on the left is a rounded battery door version. It still takes away from the 'sleek' vibe I'd
hoped to achieve. It feels clumsy having an ugly door on the back. I've added a band around
the middle of the model - could this be a neon light? Or some kind of neon rubber grip? It
occurred to me that I could make this the natural split in the model to allow access to
the battery. This would also keep the sleek lines in place.

In my final hand-rendered sketches I've added flattened off sides - an idea taken from the
helmet. This definitely feels more like a helmet crossed with a tyre! Instead of trying to
put a 'swoosh' shape on the model I've opted for a lightening bolt effect on the speaker grill. I
want the neon ring around the speaker grill to be a bright rubbery silicone - I'm hoping that will
give the impressionof the speaker 'glowing'.
