Research

I have chosen to design a speaker based on the film TRON LEGACY.
To get a flavour of what my speaker may look like I took some images from the film (above left).
I also looked at the helmet - I particularly like the angular visor against the curve of the helmet.

The Tron cycle. It looks like it could have neon strip lighting in the wheels. I love the gloss
black with the neon lights and the huge bulbous wheels.

Only two words spring to mind!

I looked at other neon bits and bobs: a neon sign, Arcade Fire's Neon Bible album cover,
a rubber neon watch and the neon glow of a gas hob and...

  ...Star Wars Lightsabers!!!

Looking at speakers already on the market. Here (to my absolute joy!) we have novelty
pig speakers. They combine the kitsch novelty element and their function as a speaker in a
sleek and stylised way. I must remember to think about where the jack wire, battery and
all components will go when designing my idea. The other is an exmaple of a Tron-inspired
MP3 Player. Again, it manages to stay stylish whilst portraying the essence of the film.

Another couple of examples of novelty speakers. I LOVE the round shape of the golf-ball one on
the right. It could almostbe a big alien head or helmet. If this was gloss black it would definitely
start to look like Tron merchandise.

I looked at 'designer' speakers which also focused on good quality sound. These two examples
are from the site

The wooden speakers on the left are said to have better sound quality due to their material
(a high class wood). Both designs were made spherical in an attempt to make the sound
resonate smoothly. This will HAVE to be considered in my designs.

I really like how compact this novelty ladybird speaker is. It's rounded so should have a nice sound
and all the switches/sockets are neatly mounted.
